Chile was always a special place for the late Gustavo Cerati, who even chose Providencia in Santiago as the place where he would create his first album as a solo artist, “Amor Amarillo” and as the place where his children, Benito and Lisa would be born. For these reasons, Pedro Aznar tribute Cerati in Chilean soil, at the yearly music festival Viña del Mar. As part of the moving tribute, Aznar performed the song “Zona de Promesas” for his dear friend who passed away last September 4, after being in a comma for over four years.

Gustavo Cerati’s voice was taken from his recording of the song with Mercedes Sosa in their album “Cantora.” His vocals were then beautifully accompanied by Aznar’s guitar with over four minutes of dialogue, which the musician then called “deeply emotional and exciting.” Aznar also spoke about being approached by the production team, “It’s a great honor that they thought about me for this touching tribute.”

The fans at the International SongFestival in Vina del Mar city, northwest of Santiago, were holding white balloons with Cerati quotes during the tribute, and released them after the song while cheering and clapping for their late rock star idol, Gustavo Cerati.
