Good Friday is the culmination of Holy Week, which begins on Palm Sunday or “Domingo de Ramos.” The latter marks the day Christians commemorate as the triumphant entrance of Jesus of Nazareth into Jerusalem, as he is hailed by the crowds. Good Friday or Holy Friday, is the Friday before Easter Sunday, which this year falls on April 14, 2017. During this day, we commemorate the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross, the act that brought salvation to all who believe.

Throughout the day, the Church covers all Religious images with purple fabric. The color purple symbolizes the mourning of Jesus. For those who are devoted, fasting and abstinence are executed. Also, praying and meditating the seven words that were spoken by Jesus before he took his last breath. At 3:00pm, the hour in which Christ passed away, the Creed is recited to reaffirm our beliefs. In some cities, a reenactment of the Crucifixion (Stations of the Cross) takes place.
