George RR Martin
The buzz around “Game of Thrones” is relentless and and while George R.R. Martin author of the acclaimed “A Song of Ice and Fire” series is still not talking about release dates for "The Winds of Winter." He does have some choice words for fans, but they may not be what you want to hear! Getty

George RR Martin recognizes that fans are impatient about the release of “Winds of Winter," the book following “Dance of Dragons” in the Game of Thrones series and he feels the pressure because the episodes are catching up to the latest book. He says that he has written over a thousand pages and is still working on it. He has not given a tentative release date as reported by International Digital Times. Martin offers previous chapters of major characters online. "But at the same time, sometimes I just wish they would stop pressuring me about it. It will be done when it's done. I'm working on it. I don't know what else I can say: I'm a slow writer, I've always been a slow writer, and these are gigantic books," he said. He said fans should not expect the book anytime soon.

He is aware of the fact that Game of Thrones season 4 premieres on HBO spring 2014 but he didn’t offer clues of when we might expect the book. "It is great that so many people are eager for the next book and certainly these are the people who are paying my bills and allowing me to have a house across the street from my other house. But at the same time, sometimes I just wish they would stop pressuring me about it. It will be done when it's done. I'm working on it. I don't know what else I can say: I'm a slow writer, I've always been a slow writer, and these are gigantic books."

Martin knows what direction what direction “Winds of Winter” is going. "I hate outlines. I have a broad sense of where the story is going; I know the end, I know the end of the principal characters, and I know the major turning points and events from the books, the climaxes for each book, but I don't necessarily know each twist and turn along the way. That's something I discover in the course of writing and that's what makes writing enjoyable. I think if I outlined comprehensively and stuck to the outline the actual writing would be boring." He admits that “as Game of Thrones comes closer and closer, I need to go faster and faster.” He appears to have a decent portion of it done. When it comes to the release date update, Martin is still writing. Editing also takes long so when he is done writing, it will probably take many months.
