Online fashion retailer Gilt conducted a survey — titled "Stilettos by State" — to see which region in the United States had women who sported the highest heels under the direction of Gilt Principal Data Scientist Igor Elbert and Gilt Data Analyst Debbie Chung. Their findings? United States territory Puerto Rico came out on top with the average of 2.86 inch heels.

Following Puerto Rico where the states of Nevada, Florida (2.46 inches), Arkansas and Texas (2.35 inches), which boasted women wearing the highest heels. As for shortest heels, women in Nebraska Kansas and Maine had an average under 1.97 inches.

And if you are curious as to why Gilt is conducting a survey like this, then know that the online retailer wants to be able to predict what a consumer wants and customize their offerings accordingly.

"The Gilt tech team doesn't need an in-house psychic to help us predict which customers will buy products we've never sold before," shares Gilt on their Tech Blog. "Instead, we rely on the data wizardry performed by our Principal Data Scientist, Igor Elbert, who has been helping us to refine our product performance predictions ... by using various machine learning and predictive modeling techniques."
