Kate del Castillo has been missing in action after news broke that she was involved in a secret meeting between actor Sean Penn and Joaquin "El Chapo" Gúzman months before the drug lord's recapture on January 8. Del Castillo, who is very active on social media, has in fact kept quiet on the Internet. Two of her last posts on Instagram include a video of her Tequila brand and one with singer Lupillo Rivera. According to ABC News, the Mexican star and Penn are under investigation for their secret meeting.

Even though Kate is a household name in the Latino community, many people are wondering who she is. After all, she was key in the encounter between Penn and "El Chapo. As per Penn's exclusive interview with the Mexican drug lord published on Rolling Stone, Kate and "El Chapo" established a relationship in 2012. In the four years, "the imprisoned drug lord and the actress began to correspond in handwritten letters and BBM messages," according to Penn, who emphasized that the 43-year-old telenovela star was his "ticket to 'El Chapo's' trust." Here are some facts to know about Kate del Castillo.

1) She was born Kate del Castillo Negrete Trillo on October 23, 1972 in Mexico City, Mexico.

2) She is daughter of Kate Trillo and legendary Mexican actor Eric del Castillo, who has acted in over 45 telenovelas, including "Lo Que La Vida Me Robo."

3) Kate has a sister named Veronica and a half-brother named Ponciano.

4) From 2001 to 2004, del Castillo was married to former soccer player and TV Azteca sports commentator Luis Garcia.

5) Five years after her first marriage, she tied the knot with Mexican actor and heartthrob Aaron Diaz. The couple was married from 2009 to 2011.

7) Kate embarked her career in 1978, when she formed part of a movie called "Los De Abajo."
