We all look forward to the Latin GRAMMYS and the American Music Awards to see our favorite entertainers hit the stage but this year the lineup will be a little short. Shakira has just made an announcement that has many of her fans in an uproar.

According to Billboard, Colombian superstar Shakira made a shocking announcement on Twitter that she will not be able to perform at either the Latin GRAMMYs. The news comes as a surprise as many people were expecting the star to deliver another memorable performance.

“Due to personal matters, I won't be able to travel to Las Vegas & LA to attend the Latin GRAMMYs or the AMAs this year,” she wrote. She also said that she will be with Carlos Vives in spirit. Shakira was set to perform “La Bicicleta” with Vives in both award shows.

The Latin GRAMMYs which will be held on November 17 in Las Vegas and the American Music awards which will be held on November 20 is a few weeks away so we can speculate that something serious is going on.

Just last month the singer was in great spirits as she release new music, a new single named "Chantaje" featuring Maluma. The song, which has garnered over 26 million streams on YouTube alone debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, according to the chart organization, becoming only the 14th song to do so in the chart’s 30-year history.

We would imagine that she would want to hit the stage and showcase her new sound so something is definently up. At this point since her announcement has come so soon we think it can be related to health and family.

Billboard has contacted Shakira's representatives for further explanation but they have not made contact.

Hopefully we get to see Shakira perform very soon!
