Today Facebook announced that a new Windows 10 app for Facebook and Facebook Messenger are available on the desktop alongside an Instagram app. Back in March a beta for the Instagram app arrived, however, the list of devices that support the mobile OS remain limited, reports Engadget.
The Facebook desktop app will allow users to keep up with close friends and family through Live Tiles. Live Tiles in Windows 10 display info that is useful at a glance without actually opening an app. So a news app will display headlines while the Weather tile will show the forecast for the day. Users can rearrange, resize and move these tiles to better suit their needs.
Furthermore, the Facebook app for Windows 10 includes an in-app browser for the News Feed and just like the web interface users can employ reactions and stickers to respond to a post, switch on notifications and keep up with events and trending topics.
With the Messenger app users will find trademark features like group chats, stickers, GIFs and photo sharing to Windows on desktop. It also allows you to turn on desktop notifications so you can receive updates through Live Tiles.
Facebook and Microsoft both say the Instagram app on Windows 10 mobile is coming with "all of the community's favorite features."
These feature will include direct messages, the recent addition of account switching and updated search and explore tools. Like the desktop iteration, Instagram also supports Live Tiles, so users will be able to stay up to date from their home screen.
According to the Windows Blog, The new Facebook app will replace the existing Windows desktop Facebook app once fully rolled out in the store. While the Instagram app will replace the beta app.
Facebook, Messenger and Instagram are available for download now through the Windows Store.
