World Health Day is celebrated on 7th April all over the world since 1950, sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and not only is this an important date, but it’s a good time to value our health and take conscious measures to preserve our wellbeing. Every year WHO takes on a different challenge and sheds light to different health issues affecting the world. Last year, the organization is highlighted the challenges and opportunities associated with food safety under the slogan “From farm to plate, make food safe.”

For this year, the organization chose “Beat Diabetes,” a noncommunicable disease (NCD) directly impacting millions of people of globally, mostly in low- and middle-income countries. “Diabetes is a chronic, metabolic disease characterized by elevated levels of blood glucose which may over time lead to serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves,” explains the WHO website. “Knowledge exists to reverse this trend through targeted prevention and appropriate care.”
