If the name Harvey Ball doesn’t ring a bell, you don’t know your smile history well enough, because he is the artist who created the smiley face in 1963, and since then the image has served as an internationally accepted symbol for happiness. And while the smiley face has impacted our culture, the overall importance of a smile has as well. The power of a smile has been documented by authors, activists, singers, and of course film!
