The completely redesigned next-generation Porsche Panamera will not only feature the all-new Modular Standard Platform (MSB), but the German automaker announced that the 4-door sports sedan will also feature a new Porsche V6 and V8 engine.
According to Autocar, the V6 and V8 petrol engines will be more sporty than the power unit offerings available for Volkswagen and Audi. What's more, Porsche expects the new engines to be a part of their portfolio for the long term.
“Porsche will have its own new V8 that will be common to the new MSB platform,” Porsche chief engineer Wolfgang Hatz announced at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. “It’s a family for the next 10 years of cars.”
According to sources within Volkswagen Group, the new Porsche V6 and V8 engines will not only serve the Porsche Panamera and Cayenne SUV, but possibly an all-new Panamera-based two-door GT sports coupe as well. The Engines will likely serve Bentley as well.
As far as the VW Group MSB platform is concerned, the Porsche-developed platform will underpin sporty front-engined rear wheel drive and all wheel drive models. A Porsche Panamera-based two-door coupe may be availabe in both hard top and soft top variants may be introduced in the months ahead. Bently has yet to confirm whether the next-generation Continental GT and Flying Spur models will utilize the MSB platform.
