Apple Watch Specs
We look into the Apple Watch. Learn more about its price and specs, including battery life. Apple

We knew that the 4.7-inch screen and 5.5-inch screen iPhone 6 models would be unveiled at the Sept. 9 Apple event, but the new Apple Watch completely stole the show! According to Tim Cook, the new Apple Watch is the most personal device that Apple has ever created. But what exactly is it capable of doing and why should you own one? We break down the Apple Watch and investigate what's what.

First, let's go over its physical dimensions. There will be two unique Apple Watch models available, one with a 38mm display and another with a 42mm display. Both watch faces will be made of sapphire glass and both models will boast Retina display as well as touchscreen with Force Touch technology.

Both the 38mm and 42mm Apple Watch offers three unique versions known as the standard Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Sport, and the Apple Watch Edition. First, the Apple Watch will be available in a polished or space black stainless steel finish. Next, the Apple Watch Sport will feature a space gray or silver anodized aluminum finish. Last but not least, the high-end Apple Watch Edition will feature an 18-karat rose gold or yellow gold finish. Each watch will be available with a variety of interchangeable straps.

Underneath the pretty shell is some pretty robust hardware. The Apple Watch features a custom-designed S1 chip nestled in architecture specifically designed to make the smartwatch impact and water resistant. The Apple Watch also features sensors like the accelerometer and the heart rate monitor. What's more, GPS, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and BlueTooth 4.0 is available as well.

The aforementioned Force Touch technology in the Apple Watch registers tiny electrodes to identify whether the user just performed a tap or a press. The Taptic Engine will also vibrate around your wrists to give off notification alerts. Last but not least, the Apple Watch will also support Apple Pay and Siri.

Beyond the Force Touch technology on the crisp Retina Display screen, the Apple Watch also features a new take on the home button as well as an innovative "Digital Crown," a modern twist that brings back the classic click wheel. However, some will notice the glaring omission of a charging dock. This is because the back side of the Apple Watch features MagSafe Wireless charging. However, this may also mean that the Apple Watch could only be charged when it is off the user's wrist.

On the topic of batteries, Apple has not officially announced the battery life of the new Apple Watch. That said, John Paczkowski of Re/Code spoke to an Apple insider, who recommended that the Apple Watch be recharged once a day, or approximately 24 hours.

“There’s a lot of new technology packed into Apple Watch and we think people will love using it throughout the day,” said Apple spokeswamn Nat Kerris. “We anticipate that people will charge nightly which is why we designed an innovative charging solution that combines our MagSafe technology and inductive charging.”

The Apple Watch will be compatible with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6+, as well as the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5s. Finally, the Apple Watch will be priced starting at $349.
