Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, along with other artists, were absent during the Met Gala 2019. Surprisingly, they have very diverse reasons for missing the prestigious event – a few had conflict in schedules, a couple did not enjoy the past Gala they’ve attended, while one said it’s just a jerk parade.

Ariana Grande

The “Thank U, Next” singer was not able to attend the Met Gala 2019 due to a scheduling conflict. Grande is currently on her “Sweetener” tour and performed at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles on the night of the Met.

Grande’s Met Gala debut happened just last year. She wore a stunning Vera Wang gown, which was said to be inspired by Michelangelo’s masterpiece “The Last Judgement.”

Selena Gomez

The singer-actress has been a consistent attendee of the Met Gala since 2014. However, she was not present at the event this year.

Her absence this year was already confirmed by her makeup artist, Hung Vanngo, via an Instagram comment to a fan. It looks like she was not even in New York City during the Gala based on her Instagram stories, which suggested that she was in Disneyland California.

Demi Lovato

For Lovato, her Met Gala experience, which happened in 2016, was not fun at all. In fact, she said it probably will be her first and last time attending the celeb-packed event.

She posted a photo on Instagram showing her, Jeremy Scott and Nicky Minaj, who seem to be glaring angrily at her. “This picture pretty much summed up my first and probably last met #cool#sofuckingawkward#notforme#sweatpants#forensicfiles#whatsgood p.s. some of y'all need to learn how to take a joke. I'm obviously laughing at the fact that 1. I look incredibly awkward and 2. That the shade being thrown in this picture actually gives me life,” Lovato captioned her post.

“I had a terrible experience,” Lovato later recounted her experience to Billboard. “This one celebrity was a complete b**ch and was miserable to be around. It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink.” It looks like Lovato made good on her promise as the singer was also a no show at the Met Gala 2019.

Zayn Malik

It took just one event for the former One Direction member to conclude that the Met Gala was not for him. He attended the 2016 Met with Gigi Hadid but did not enjoy it one bit.

“It’s not something I would go to,” Zayn Malik later told GQ. “I’d rather be sitting at my house, doing something productive . . . To do the self-indulgent, ‘Look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, it’s not me.”

Tina Fey

After attending the Met Gala 2010, actress and comedienne Tina Fey vowed never to return again. “It is such a jerk parade,” Fey told David Letterman. “Every jerk from every walk of life is there, wearing, like, some stupid thing . . . I dragged my husband along with me, which I’m still in trouble for.”
