Diane Disney Miller Dies: Daughter Of Walt Disney Dead At 79

The daughter of world famous animator and the creator of Mickey Mouse Walt Disney, Diane Disney Miller has died at the age of 79. One of Walt Disney's inspirations for building the Disneyland theme park, Diane Disney Miller died on Tuesday in her northern California home. Miller's death was due to complications resulting from a recent fall, Andi Wang, a spokesperson for the Walt Disney Family Museum confirmed. Miller was born in 1933 and was the eldest of Walt and Lillian Disney's daughters.

Robert Iger the President and CEO of The Walt Disney Co issued a statement regarding the death of Diane Disney. "As the beloved daughter of Walt Disney and one of his inspirations for creating Disneyland, she holds a special place in the hearts of fans everywhere. She will be remembered for her grace and generosity and tireless work to preserve her father's legacy." When Miller died she was president of the Board of Directors of the Walt Disney Family Foundation.

The foundation is a nonprofit organization that owns and operates the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco. The museum opened in 2009 and its purpose was to "promote and inspire creativity and innovation and celebrate and study the life of Walt Disney." The news release about Miller's death said, "She went through life with a determination to inspire and entertain. She was her father's daughter, a creative force with the perseverance to follow dreams and make a difference." Diane Disney married her husband Ron Miller a year after they met in 1954.

Diane Disney Miller's younger sister died in 1993 from cancer. Miller is survived by her husband, seven children and 13 grandchildren. Miller also had one great-granddaughter. When Diane Disney was born in Los Angeles in 1933 the Times announced, "Mickey Mouse has a daughter." Growing up as the Daughter of a world famous animator was not easy for Diane Disney, nor is it easy for her family. In a 1997 interview Miller said, "My dad loved his celebrity - well he earned it. I don't like living in the wake of his celebrity. It's hard on my children people are always calling them up for Disneyland tickets."
