Kayla María Mendoza was heading east in her Hyundai Sonata in the westbound lanes of the Sawgrass Expressway in Florida at 1:45 a.m. early Sunday, Nov. 17, when she crashed head-on into a Toyota Camry containing two girls, Marisa Catronio and Kaitlyn Ferrante, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Catronio, 21, was sitting in the front passenger seat, and was killed on impact, according to her father, Gary Catronio. Ferrante, also 21, suffered from severe head injuries in the accident and was kept on life support while in the hospital. She was pronounced dead Thursday morning. Mendoza was also taken to a hospital and is in serious condition.

The major controversy, however, came after a status update that Mendoza, who spells her name "Kaila" on social media, posted hours before the accident, revealing she was driving under the influence. The young woman reportedly tweeted "2 drunk 2 care" just a few hours before the fatal accident. Digging deeper into her account, the "pothead princess," as she describes herself on her Twitter bio, had other incriminating statements she had written in the past, including "2 high 2 care" and "my car permanently smells like weed." Also, one day before the crash, she tweeted, "Can't deal with people that don't have their sh*t together."

Other tweets include, "Oh, ya know, just rolling a blunt in the airport parking lot," and "I have a test at 8am, why am I drunk right now." She also wrote "Can't sleep without my bedtime blunt," "I really am so baked right now," and "I have a monthly marijuana budget #bills." The Florida Highway Patrol said they are aware of Kayla Mendoza's tweets and are investigating. There have been no charges filed yet but authorities say these cases can take weeks or months to put together.
