Continuing a dominant run through the 2013 PGA Tour season, Tiger Woods is once again making headlines following his win at the 2013 Players Championship.

While the story of Woods winning a tournament he has notoriously struggled in makes for great headlines, the 37-year-old is involved in a somewhat controversial situation regarding a drop he took during the final round of the tournament.

As ESPN notes, Woods had an issue with a penalty drop following an errant tee shot he hit on the 14th hole in Round 4 of the Championship. Hitting a high hook with his 3-wood off the tee, Woods' ball landed in a lateral water hazard, prompting him to take the drop and incur a one-stroke penalty.

NBC announcer Johnny Miller questioned the drop by Woods, but Tiger's playing partner, Casey Wittenberg, said there was no doubt Woods did the right thing in dropping his ball at the point where both players saw the ball enter the hazard.

"I saw it perfectly off the tee," Wittenberg told the New York Daily News. "We talked to each other. He asked me exactly where it crossed. I told him I thought it crossed on the corner of the bunker right where he took his drop, and it's all good. There is no doubt, the ball crossed where he dropped."

The issue became noteworthy because Woods was recently involved in an illegal drop situation last month at The Masters Championship.

Upon hitting his approach shot in the water on the 15th hole at Augusta during the second round of the tournament, Woods took an illegitimate drop and was assessed a two-stroke penalty the next day.

While the act of Woods dropping his ball improperly was a clear mistake, many people -- including former caddie Steve Williams -- thought Woods should have been disqualified from The Masters for signing an improper scorecard following the round.

"Tiger certainly wasn't trying to gain anything on the field there. He didn't do that intentionally," Williams said to the Daily News. "It was a mistake. But in the fairness of the rules, he should have been disqualified. He signed a scorecard and left the course. He committed a penalty."

Woods was not disqualified and finished the tournament in a tie for fourth. Australian Adam Scott defeated Argentina's Ángel Cabrera to win his first major.

Regarding his drop at last week's event, the two-time Players Champion was confident he was dropping in the proper spot after his ball found trouble and because his playing partner agreed with his decision.

"I hit a pop-up big high hook, so it started way right, and then it went way left," Woods said to CBS Sports. "So it had a lot to room to it. We decided it crossed there, and I played it."

Winning the 2013 Players Championship for the first time since 2001, Woods earned his fourth victory in seven events this season.

As he continues his great start to the 2013 season, Woods will have the opportunity to earn his 15th Major Championship when the U.S. Open begins at Merion Golf Course in Ardmore, Pennsylvania on June 13.
