A British soldier was beheaded and hacked to death by two men on a Woolwich, London street today in what a British government official told the Associated Press was most likely a "terrorist-motivated attack". Security officials confirmed that two suspects were shot by police and are currently at a hospital receiving treatment for their injuries. ITV News has obtained a disturbing video of a man believed to be one of the suspects, who gestures with bloodied hands and carries a machete and large knife as he speaks to someone just off camera.

"I apologize that women had to witness this today," the man says as the victim lies in the street behind him. "But in our lands, our women have to see the same. You people will never be safe. Remove your governments! They don't care about you!"

The Independent reported that one witness told LBC radio that the two men were "hacking" at the soldier. "They were hacking at him, chopping him, cutting him. These two guys were crazed. They were just animals. They dragged him from the pavement and dumped his body in the middle of the road and left his body there."

From Paris, where he was attending an EU meeting, British Prime Minister David Cameron called the attack "absolutely sickening" and added, "It is the most appalling crime. We are obviously urgently seeking and the police are urgently seeking the facts of the case but there are strong indications that it is a terrorist incident."

He continued, "Tonight our thoughts should be with the victim and their families and friends. People across Britain. People in every community, I believe, will utterly condemn this attack. We have had these sorts of attacks before in our country and we never buckle in the face of them."

The prime minister will return early from the EU meeting and has called a meeting of Cobra, the government's emergency committee dealing with incidents that have implications for national security.

The Muslim Council of Britain has released a statement condemning the Woolwich attack, saying, "This is a truly barbaric act that has no basis in Islam and we condemn this unreservedly."
