The New York Daily News reported part of the home collapsed following the blast. Some are suggesting that the house explosion in Queens may be gas-related. The incident occurred at 84th Street and 163rd Avenue, just west of Cross Bay Boulevard, a major north-south link between the Glendale area and the Rockaway beaches.

Utility crews shut off the possibly-affected gas line and the FDNY is "pouring" water on the house, as local FOX affiliate WNYW reported. At least one person was injured in the blast, and taken to a nearby hospital in Jamaica, N.Y. for treatment of burns.

A short distance across the Shellbank Basin, a small inlet of Jamaica Bay separating Howard Beach and Old Howard Beach, lies John F. Kennedy International Airport. There are no reports as to whether the house explosion is affecting travelers there or along Cross Bay Boulevard as afternoon commuters to the Rockaways prepare to cross the nearby Joseph Addabbo Memorial Bridge.
