"The Sopranos" has been named the number one best written show ever, by the Writers Guild of America. The WGA released a list of the 101 best written shows on TV, including new and classic favorites. "The Sopranos" charted the list at number one. "Oz" finished out the WGA best written TV shows ever at number 101.

"The Sopranos" ended its 6 season HBO run in 2007. Episode reruns are played on HBO and A&E and still draw a large audience.

The ending of "The Sopranos" left fans with mixed reactions and a lot of questions. Did they live? Did they die? Questions fans are hoping will be answered if the rumors of a full length "The Sopranos" movie ever prove to be true.

HBO premiered "The Sopranos" starring James Gandolfini and Edie Falco in 1998. The story followed mob boss Tony Soprano and his crew of wise guys as they battled for control of the New Jersey crime world. "The Sopranos" was awash is sex, drugs and violence while promoting the idea of family loyalty.

The Writers Guild of America included the best written shows from the last half of the 20th century with some of today's favorites mixed in with classic TV sitcoms.

"MASH" starring Alan Alda and Loretta Swit came in at number 5. The showed was set during the Korean War and followed the lives of wise-cracking meatball surgeons as they tried to make sense of what was happening around them.

TV classics like "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" is number 6, "I Love Lucy" comes in at number 12 and "The Honeymooners" is 31 on the list."

Fan favorites like "Friends" starring Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox is number 24, "ER" is at number 28 and "Star Trek" comes it at number 33.

Today's shows making the list include, "Mad Men" number 7, "Breaking Bad" number 13, "SNL number 24, "Game of Thrones" starring Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke is listed at number 40 and "Downton Abbey is number 43.

"Oz" finishes off the top 101 best written TV shows of all time, according to the Writers Guild of America. "Oz" ran for 6 seasons on HBO. According to IMDB the series "chronicled the daily activities of an unusual prison facility and its criminal inhabitants."
