Disney Channel is going to add some new characters to their show "Good Luck Charlie." The show's new characters will be a family with a lesbian couple featured as parents.

"Good Luck Charlie" is about to enter its final season and the episode featuring the lesbian parents is said to weave the characters into the show making no specific comments about the fact that the women are gay.

The episode will center on Charlie and a new friend whose moms are lesbians. Charlie's parents will attempt to become friends with the new girl's parents with the only issue being the fact that Charlie's mom and dad are boring.

According to the Daily Mail, former Disney Channel star Miley Cyrus took to Twitter to praise her former employers for their decision to add lesbian parents to a show that widely influences a younger audience.

"Is this true?!?!?!" Cyrus tweeted to Evan Rachel Wood. "I commend Disney for making this step into the light of this generation. They control so much of what kid's think. Life isn't bright sets & wardrobe & kids becoming superstars! This in INSPIRING."

Disney Channel made a statement to TV Guide saying,

This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisers. Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness.

Perez Hilton also blogged about how excited and proud he was that Disney Channel would be featuring a gay couple on one of their shows.

"This is such wonderful news!" Hilton said. "We're so proud Disney is acknowledging that families don't have to fit into the cookie cutter mold."
