According to Boston.com, a fight occurred in July 2012 at club Cure, a popular nightspot located in Boston's South End. Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado, two men involved in a fight with a group of individuals said to include Aaron Hernandez, reportedly left the club during the early morning hours of July 16th, 2012. Pulling away from the hangout spot in a BMW sedan, the two pulled up to a red light where moments later a gray SUV with Rhode Island license plates stopped next to them. One person from the automobile opened fire killing Abreu and Furtado. Authorities have been searching for this SUV over the past year and it is believed that Hernandez was renting the truck at the time of the shootings.

In an attempt to find a possible connection between the multiple murders that are separated by less than a year, CBS Sports reports that investigators now believe Odin Lloyd had information regarding Hernandez's role in the double slaying, noting that Lloyd's knowledge probably spooked the former Pro Bowl receiver.

Taken from his home in the early morning hours of June 26th, Aaron Hernandez was driven by police to a North Attleboro court where he was arraigned and charged with murder along with five additional gun-related charges. Investigations into the death of Odin Lloyd began after his body was found with multiple gun wounds not far from where Hernandez lived in North Attleborough, Massachusetts.

Searching the inside of Hernandez's home, the surrounding area and a nearby pond for evidence, police were able to gather multiple bags of evidence throughout their investigation. At one time requesting Hernandez turn over his cell phone and home security cameras for investigative purposes, an arrest warrant was prepared for the former University of Florida standout for obstruction of justice after police found he destroyed the phone and cameras.

Shortly after the former football player was arrested but before his arraignment, the New England Patriots issued a statement indicating the releasing of Aaron Hernandez, noting that the team is extremely disappointed to know that one of their players was in the middle of a murder investigation.
