Zara Phillips, the granddaughter of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II is pregnant and expecting her first child with her husband Mike Tindall. Zara Phillips is the daughter of Princess Anne and 14th in line to the British throne.

Zara Phillips is a three-day professional eventer; she is a competitive equestrian and won a silver medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The 32-year-old mother to be is expected to continue competing in a few more events before she takes leave of the hardcore equine sport.

The Telegraph reports that Mary King, a six time Olympic gold medalist and equestrian competed up until her fifth month of pregnancy. The Telegraph also reported that the most dangerous time in a pregnancy is the first six weeks. A fall from a horse during that time can cause a miscarriage.

After the first six weeks a doctor speaking with the British newspaper said competing on horseback is perfectly safe as long as the mother is comfortable wit it.

Phillips is married to British rugby star Mike Tindall, the couple married in 2011. Phillips' child will be the third grandchild for Princess Anne. Her son and Zara's brother has two daughters.

Zara Phillips' expected due date will be sometime in the early part of 2014. This July however, Phillips' cousin and heir to the throne, Prince William is expecting his first child with wife Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.

The birth of the future heir to the throne will see Zara Phillips' spot drop down to 15th in line; her child will be 16th.

Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming Phillips' pregnancy saying,

"Mr. and Mrs. Tindall are very pleased to announce that Zara Tindall is expecting a baby in the New Year. The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, Mr. Phillip and Mrs. Linda Tindall and members of both families are delighted with the news."
