It has been a hot summer in the "Big Brother" house on CBS. After houseguests were called out for making racial slurs, the network finally addressed the issue in Sunday's (June 8) episode.

The editing team pieced a montage of scenes where Aaryn Gries is heard telling Kaitlin Barnaby that Kim (Asian-American) should "shut up" and "go make some rice," to which Kaitlin responded, "That's rude."
Other comments made by Aaryn were, "I look, probably, like a squinty Asian right now," "nobody is going to vote for whoever that queer puts up" (directed towards Andy Herren), and "be careful what you say in the dark you might not be able to see the b**ch" (targeting Candice Stewart).
Although the subject of the racist remarks that CBS aired were mostly from Gries, Gina Marie Zimmerman and Spencer Clawson were also involved in the racial slurs.

Howard Overby, expressed his sentiment regarding Aaryn's comments in the diary room.
"Even when these comments are made in fun, they still hurt and are disrespectful, especially when that person isn't there to hear it and back themselves up."
After these comments hit the Internet, Aaryn was dropped from her modeling agency Zephyr Talent and was shortly followed by Zimmerman being let go from her job as pageant coordinator as well.
Before Sunday, CBS had only issued a brief statement detaching themselves from the house mates saying, "Any views or opinions expressed in personal commentary by a Houseguest appearing on 'Big Brother,' either on any live feed from the House or during the broadcast, are those of the individual(s) speaking and do not represent the views or opinions of CBS or the producers of the program."
"Big Brother" only airs three times a week, but has live feeds online 24 hours a day. The episodes that are broadcasted on the network are usually focused on strategy and game play and hardly ever attack any social issues. Due to the public uproar after said comments from the contestants, CBS felt the need to air the piece and not shy away from it.
Aaryn is the current "Head of Household" and is safe from eviction this week. As one of her duties as HOH she has placed two houseguests on the block, Elissa and Helen.
The next new episode of "Big Brother" will air Wednesday, July 10 at 8pm on CBS.
