Samsung released it's Galaxy Tab 3 which has garnered the direct competition of Apple's 4th generation iPad, which was released late last year. These two tech-giants have been endlessly challenging each other, although now with the introduction of competing tablets we are wondering which one is better? Let's break down the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 versus Apple's iPad 4. The best way to figure out which tablet reigns supreme is to compare them regarding their size, weight, display, battery, processor and of course their software.

Size and Weight

The dimensions of the Samsung tablet are 243mm by 176 mm by 8 mm, compared to the Apple iPad 4 size of 241 mm by 186 mm by 9.4 mm. This makes the Galaxy Tab 3 more lightweight, considering the Galaxy Tab 3 is slightly longer than the iPad 4, it has a more narrow and thinner body. The 510g Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is also lighter than the 652g iPad 4 tablet, roughly 22 percent lighter. This could be in part because of its plastic build, while the Apple iPad is made of aluminum. So in terms of size, weight we have to say that Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 wins. I mean people purchase a tablet for the convenience and ease of being able to carry it on the go, so lighter is better.

Processor and Storage

The iPad 4 is driven by the dual-core A6X processor with quad-core graphics and 1GB of RAM. The Galaxy Tab 3 is powered by a 1.6 GHz Atom Z2560 CPU and also 1GB of RAM. The major difference between the tablets comes due to the options in storage. Apple provides consumers with more models of their iPad 4, which feature varying storage options, including 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 however only offers consumers 2 variations of the table, 16GB and 32GB. Although, one plus for the Samsung tablet is that it supports microSD cards for extra storage, which allows users to expand up to 64GB. Apple has yet to include a microSD slot in their tablet models, but really how much more storage could you need on a 128 GB tablet. So we are giving this round to the iPad 4.

Display

While the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 took the lead in terms of ease and portability, when considering display, Apple's more cumbersome build is a positive. The 9.7-inch iPad 4 has a resolution of 1,536 by 2,048 pixels compared to the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 3, with a screen display of 1,280 by 800 pixels. Apple knocks it out the park in another aspect of display, the iPad's Retina display possess 264 pixels per inch, while the Galaxy pushes only 149 pixels per inch. In this comparison, Apple's iPad 4 wins in display.

Battery

The iPad 4 also wins when comparing battery power, The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 features 6,800mAh battery compared to the Apple iPad 4 with 11,666mAh battery. However, this comparison can sometimes be deceiving because with the higher-resolution display of the iPad 4, a lot of battery is used to simply power the high definition display.

Software

As for software, both tablets use the latest software version. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 runs on Android 4.2 and includes Samsung's TouchWiz UI layered on top. The iPad 4 runs on the latest Apple iOS 6. This can be debated till the end of time, which software is more efficient and overall better, I'm going to call this one a draw between both tablets.

Price

Lets compare the price of these two competing tablet, because while its not the most important thing, it certainly is something to be considering when investing in a new gadget. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 starts at $399.99 compared to the Apple iPad 4, which starts at $499.99. In regards to price, its kind of a no brainer, the Galaxy wins.

So now that we have compared everything, it seems that the iPad 4 has come out on top. But it really comes down to what the customer wants and what exactly is the most important feature to them.
