As a surprise to the audience and fans Showtime brought back some fans favorites form the dead for "Dexter's" last trip to Comic-Con. Erik King (Sgt. Doakes), Julie Benz (Rita Bennett) and Lauren Velez (Captain LaGuerta) all returned to share the stage with Michael C. Hall (Dexter Morgan), Jennifer Carpenter (Debra Morgan), David Zayas (Angel Batista), Desmond Harrington (Joey Quinn), Yvonne Strahovski (Hannah McKay), Aimee Garcia (Jamie Batista) and more of those who've worked on "Dexter," both in front of and behind the camera.

For the final "Dexter" panel at Comic-Con all the deceased actors spoke upon their deaths within in the show. Erik King said about Sgt. Doakes death:

"When you get the pages and you know what's going to happen, you dig into it ... And I want to say publicly, Michael C. Hall, thank you. When you have someone like Michael who shows up fully with his heart and his craft, you want to bring it." King also understood why Doakes had to die saying, ""We couldn't go eight years where he goes, 'I'm watching you!' And eventually Dexter says, 'Who cares? I'm watching you too.'"

He also noted that even though he was only on the series for two seasons it feels like he's still part of the show saying, ""I'm blown away that I was on the show for only two years, [but it still feels like I'm] with the show ... I'm proud of the work, I'm proud of the show."

Lauren Velez commented on how she knew it was the end for LaGuerta when she was promoted. "I wasn't surprised, but I wasn't prepared for how it made me feel," she said. Former "Dexter" star Julie Benz a.k.a. Rita said "She was very sad" after her character was killed off the hit-show. "For me, because it was so sudden and I wasn't prepared for it, it affected me on a very deep level. And because she was so innocent," the actress added.

John Lithgow who played the Trinity Killer on "Dexter" left a video message for fans saying, "Hello, Dexter Morgan fans at Comic-Con. I wish I could be with you today, but as you all know, I'm dead. Thank you for being such fans. Not a day goes by when people don't recognize me as a psychopath. I have to thank you for that."

The panel was really about remembering where they've been and saying good-bye. Each panelist expressed gratitude for the fans for making the show such a success. Many of them recalled when Dexter first came to Comic-Con and how it was in much smaller room. Julie Benz said it's just been amazing to see the progression, and a teary-eyed Carpenter said, "The most authentic thing about this show is our relationship with you. It can't be a wrap until we're all here together, and it's a wrap with you all now." She wasn't the only one crying.

Carpenter also had the opportunity to clarify her earlier statements about wanting to Deb to die. "I wanted her and [I] want her to die. As an actor, it's because I love her," Carpenter said, echoing the sentiment yet again. "It's a little like how [Dexter] treats his victims. I want her to go to the bottom of her abyss where all her secrets lie so I don't spend the next eight years [thinking about Deb and having her in my head]."

A bit of news did come from the panel: the season 8 Blu-ray DVD set will hit shelves on November 5th. The complete series set will also be out that day, and it will come in a boxed set that looks like Dexter's trophy case and will include bonus material as well as an art book.
