The Latin Recording Academy announced the nominations for the 14th Annual Latin Grammy Awards which have Carlos Vives leading the pack with five nominations and Alejandro Sanz and Catetano Veloso with four. The press conference took place at the Avalon in Hollywood, California and was hosted by President of The Latin Recording Academy, Gabriel Abaroa Jr. and "Mira Quien Baila" host, Chiquinquirá Delgado. "Once again, it's gratifying to see the Latin Grammy Awards process produce a broad cross section of diverse and impressive nominees across multiple genres," Abaroa Jr. said in a statement. "This year's nominations truly reflect an exceptional and talented creative community that embodies some of the highest levels of excellence and artistry in their respective fields. With such a group of talented musicians, this year's Latin Grammy telecast will undoubtedly be memorable."
Singer and songwriters like Natalie Cole, Aida Cuevas, Draco Rosa, Aleks Sytenk and Julieta Venegas were present to read the nominations at the event. Another notable appearance was made by Gaby Moreno who is nominated in the "Best New Artist" category and was a LatinTimes pick on the "Top 35 Latin American Alternative Albums Of All Time" for her "Postales" album. A new category was introduced this year to honor recording artists in the Urban Field, with the addition of "Best Urban Performance" the total number of categories rises up to 48. Latin music has very diverse rhythms and the nominees reflect that. The 14th Annual Latin Grammy Awards are set to take place on Thursday, Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
