Laura Bozzo
Image Petition by CREAMOS Mexico

Complaints against Televisa's recognized TV host Laura Bozzo have spread to city agencies that have penned a formal request to the company led by Emilio Azcarraga to run the presenter out of the country. It all happened after it became public that the host visited the town of Atoyac de Alvarez in Guerrero, Mexico after the tropical storm Manuel caused considerable damage, to record scenes for her talk show and promote her image. Recognized and respected journalist Carmen Aristegui called her out on her radio show with testimonies of other journalists who were present in the scene.

They saw when Laura arrived to the scene and explained that she was in a helicopter that descended. She did not get off, and instead, gave instructions to her TV crew who was already on the ground. Minutes later the helicopter ascended again, only to come back down in a muddy and dangerous area where Laura was able to make her grand descent. However, all that staging wasn't what prompted Aristegui's comments. It was the fact that she was using the state's resources for her convenience, instead of allowing the survivors of the storm be benefitted from them.

Although Bozzo made quite a scene on her TV show calling Aristegui out and challenging her to go back so she can prove her that she wasn't staging anything and her intentions are real because she loves Mexico so much, people were able to see through that and realize that "Señorita Laura" is all about drama and ratings, and have launched a petition on Change.org to kick Bozzo out of Mexico for good. "Televisa y Sociedad Civil Mexicana en general: CORRAN A BOZZO: Necesitamos más y mejores espacios para educarnos y no para embrutecernos más" is the name, meaning that they're calling Televisa and Mexican society to send Bozzo out of Mexico because they need more and better spaces to educate the people and not to make them dumber.

The petition, created by the civil partnership "CREAMOS Mexico," explains that they understand Bozzo's line of work in entertainment and that like everyone else, what Televisa wants is to have better ratings, but criticize the way it's being done. "We understand that Mrs. Laura Bozzo, a.k.a "Señorita Laura" is an entertainment figure. Her reason to exist and her capabilities consist on giving performances every day on television. First she did it in a society with a mediocre educational culture (like ours) like Peru, where they ran her out, and now has found in the forums of Televisa, an excellent space to continue getting richer and to remain part of the dynamics that day by day are keeping millions of Mexicans away from having access to more enriching content that will allow us to break the chains of intellectual appeasement we currently endure," reads the petition.

They also ask to stop damaging the Mexican society with spaces that are full of vulgar and aggressive content, and they question the decision to have brought Laura Bozzo from Peru and add, "Nobody like her, why do we have to make her the queen of our small screen?" In the end, they highlight that if the country wants a better future, it needs to start building a better present not only for the kids, but for everyone, adding that unfortunately, most people learn from their TV screens and networks need to be more careful with their content. They finish saying, "In any developed country you'll see someone like Mrs. Bozzo having a space on TV like she has in this country."

So far the petition has over 75,000 signatures.
