“The Originals” is moving into its permanent time slot tonight, declaring itself as a true standalone series. The “Vampire Diaries” spinoff series will continue its premiere season tonight with Episode 2, “House of the Rising Son,” and while the title gives us more questions than answers we do know one thing for sure, a rising daughter is back home. That’s right, Rebekah is back and teaming up with her brothers. But she certainly doesn’t seem happy about it.
The Mikaelson family loves drama and deceit, so to eldest brother Klaus, a little staking and confinement is all in good fun. Klaus stakes his brother Elijah in the back, realizing that his love for his brother will be a weakness that Marcel can exploit. Although, the stake does not kill the powerful vampire but instead paralyzes him, hopefully the first thing Rebekah does is un-stake him. Upon hearing the news, Rebekah is furious with the ruthless Klaus, the siblings argue with her yelling, "How many times will Elijah forgive you?"
The reason for Rebekah’s return to New Orleans is still unclear but it seems like tonight we will discover her true intentions. Our best guess is that she is back to protect her loving brother Elijah for Klaus, and if this is true, then it seems like she arrived just in time. A promo video for episode 2 “House of the Rising Son” provided an alternate reason for Rebekah’s return. Marcel. Unlike Klaus, who has returned home to reclaim his kingdom and eliminate Marcel, Rebekah may have returned for her love of the reigning king.
In a flashback, Rebekah and Marcel are seen to be getting sweaty during a fencing bout, but the steamy scene doesn’t end there, the pair is shown getting close until protective Klaus breaks up the passionate couple. So where do Rebekah’s allegiances lie? She is certainly not happy with Klaus, and she is still possibly in love with Marcel? But family is family and despite the Mikaleson family woes, they always seem to stick together. Most likely Rebekah will follow her brother Elijah's advice, “Always and forever, family above all.”
