Winter may be coming but Season 4 of "Game of Thrones" is still a way off. Yesterday at New York Comic Con, Jerome Flynn who portrays Bronn of the Blackwater on the HBO hit series held an exciting panel and Q&A for fans! If you aren't familiar with Flynn's character of Bronn, he is pretty much Tyrion Lannister's partner in crime. Bronn was introduced in "Game of Thrones" as a lowborn sell word, he is a patron at the inn when Catelyn Stark enters and demands that Tyrion Lannister be arrested, he helps due to the promise of gold and escorts Tyrion to the Eyrie to await justice. During Tyrion's trial Bronn volunteers to champion him for the promise of wealth. After winning the trial by battle and saving Tyrion's life, he passes into Tyrion's service as a hired sword.
Jerome Flynn held a riveting "Game of Thrones" panels discussing his character and teasing some spoiler for Season 4. While much of the panel was Flynn discussing the moments leading up to his role on "Game of Thrones," he told an anecdotal story about when he got the call about auditioning for the show, he accidentally gave himself a black-eye banging into his brother's kitchen cupboard the day before he got the part and swears that's why he landed the role of Bronn. While the fans were laughing at Flynn's charming and hilarious personal stories, he did reveal some Season 4 spoilers, he admitted that fans are going to be in for "quite a surprise" when they see just how far the show has diverged from George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Fire & Ice."
Flynn also teased that he had almost seriously injured another actor on set this year, as the two were engaged in a fight scene. On the "Game of Thrones" set actors preform fight scenes with steel swords, although despite the almost injury, Flynn would not reveal who the altercation was with as it does not appear in the book series. While I normally love any "Game of Thrones" news these tidbits about Season 4 make me anything but happy. I have always admired David Benoiff and D.B. Weiss for their ability to stay true to George R.R. Martin's infamous book series, but now it seems like that is changing. After 3 seasons of commercial and critical success, it is frustrating that they would now begin to diverge for the celebrated book series.
