The girlfriend of accused murderer and former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez pleaded not guilty to charges of perjury in court on Tuesday. Shayanna Jenkins was accused of lying to a Massachusetts grand jury about getting rid of evidence in the murder case against her boyfriend. Aaron Hernandez is accused of the murder of Odin Lloyd. Hernandez's girlfriend is accused of lying to the grand jury back in August about a box Hernandez asked her to dispose of. When initially asked about the box Jenkins invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

After she was granted immunity, Jenkins then lied about the box investigators and the prosecution believed important to the case surrounding the murder of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was dating Jenkins' sister at the time of his murder. According to the prosecution, the day after Lloyd was murdered Jenkins retrieved the now missing box from the basement of the home she shared with Hernandez. The couple then took the box, placed it in a trash bag and covered it with baby clothes. The couple then took the box and drove away.

When initially questioned about the box Jenkins told the prosecution that she had tossed it in a dumpster but could not remember where the dumpster was. No official statement has been made about what the box contained. According to court records, Carlos Ortiz, an associate of Hernandez who is charged as an accessory to murder, told prosecutors that the murder weapon was in the box. Ortiz said that following the murder of Lloyd, Hernandez took the firearms used in the killing and placed them in a box in his basement. The weapon used in the murder of Lloyd had not yet been recovered.

In other Aaron Hernandez news, the NFL Players Association is fighting to get money they feel is legally owed to Hernandez. Back in June when Hernandez was arrested in connection with Lloyd's murder, the New England Patriots made quick work of dropping him from the team. NFLPA is suggesting that the Patriots did not follow protocol when releasing Hernandez and now owe him a lot of money. The Boston Globe is quoting an NFL source as confirming the NFLPA has filed two grievances on behalf of Hernandez, Wednesday.

According to the Globe, the NFLPA is fighting to get Hernandez $6.292 million in "guaranteed money" from New England. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has suspended Hernandez indefinitely while he awaits trial for murder. Exactly 90 minutes after Hernandez's arrest in June, the New England Patriots terminated Hernandez's contract. The NFLPA is claiming that New England cut Hernandez "for skill or performance, salary cap reasons, or injury," which they claim entitles him to the guaranteed money in his contract.
