BARCELONA – Luis Suarez scored the game winning goal and Barcelona put some breathing room between their rivals Real Madrid in the La Liga standings after a 2-1 victory at Camp Nou.

Jeremy Mathieu opened up the scoring for the Catalan club in the 19th minute. Once again, the goal was set up by Lionel Messi who sent a cross into the center of the box that Mathieu was able to head into the goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo got the equalizer twelve minutes later on a phenomenal pass by Karim Benzema. The French striker sent a no-look, back-heel pass to Ronaldo in the center of the box who found the left corner of the net, just past the outstretched arms of Claudio Bravo.

Suarez continued his torrid stretch with his fifth goal in six games after Dani Alves sent a through ball to Suarez who moved to his right and sent his shot across the box to the bottom left corner as Iker Casillas was falling backwards.

Game Notes:
Chilean native Claudio Bravo got the start in net over the usual starter Marc-Andre ter Stegen who started both legs of the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League. Luka Modric made the start for Real Madrid, despite being questionable before the match. James Rodriguez and Sergio Ramos missed the match with injuries.
