Brazilian soccer legend Pelé who was a global ambassador for the World Cup that took place in his home country last month has announced that he will marry his long time girlfriend, Marcia Aoki later this year.

King Pelé is one of the greatest soccer players ever and has already been married two times before. The 73 year-old soccer star was born Edson Arantes do Nasciimiento in Tes Coraces, Brazil on October 21, 1940. He was given the nickname of “Pelé” in grade school when he kept mistakenly calling his favorite soccer player, goalkeeper, Bilé, Pelé. The name stuck with him, and the legend was born.

Pelé married his first wife, Rosemeri de Reis Cholbi in 1966 when he was 26 years old. He has three children with Rosemeri. They divorced in 1982, and throughout his marriage with Rosemeri, Pelé was constantly accused of adultery and had a reputation as a “womanizer”. He reportedly fathered two different children with two different women during his first marriage, with one of the suspected women being his maid, Anizia Machado.

After his divorce to Rosemeri, Pelé famously dated Brazilian singer, Xuxa. The couple was the talk of Brazil for over five years until they broke up in 1986. Pelé was then linked to beauty queen, Flavia Cavalcanti, better known as Miss Brazil 1989.

King Pelé married his second wife, Assiria Lemos Seixas, in 1996. They had twins together, Celeste and Joshua, and were married for twelve years until their divorce in 2008. In 2008, in an elevator at the Met gala in New York City, Pelé bumped into Marcia Aoki whom he had met in the 1980s in New York when she was married to her first husband.

Pele with Twins
Soccer legend and new father of twins Pele (L) leaves the hospital, carrying his daughter Celeste, along with his wife Assisria, carrying the other twin Joshua, November 6 in Sao Paulo. The couple headed to his coastal home in Guaruja after the twins spent 39 days at the hospital where they were born last September 28. Ironically, Marcia is from Sao Paulo, Brazil and also was recently divorced when she re-met Pelé in 2008. Aoki is a prominent business woman who is the owner of an import/export business of catering equipment. Aoki is reportedly 41 years-old, making her 32 years Pelé’s junior. The wedding which is expected to take place later this year, will be Pelé’s third time down the aisle, giving him the hat trick.

Pelé is considered to be a national treasure in Brazil, and appeared in the closing ceremony for the 2012 Summer Olympics as the torch was passed to Brazil for the 2016 games. Expect Pelé to be featured heavily during those Olympics, in the meantime you can see Pelé starring in commercials for Subway.
