The previous record holder was Lauryn Hill, who topped the chart with no other billed artist. Cardi B, from the Bronx, had the number two spot last week and was able to overtake and dethrone "Look What You Made Me Do" by Taylor Swift. Cardi B, born Belcalis Almanzar to a Dominican father and Trinidadian mother, grew up in the South Bronx. She is only the fifth female rapper to top the Hot 100 after Lil' Kim who was featured on "Lady Marmalade," Shawnna who collaborated with Ludacris on "Stand Up," Iggy Azalea who led with "Fancy" along with Charli XCX. According to Billboard, Cardi B is also the first female solo artist to lead the Hot 100 list with no featured artist since Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass."

Fans have tried to pit Nicki Minaj and Cardi B against each other in the past. “You know this bitch. She never fucking liked me. And all of a sudden she wants to be friends with me. No, bitch. I still don’t like you, bitch,” Cardi B said during a presentation. Fuel was added to the fire when a verse on Minaj's "No Flag" was thought to be a response to the Dominican: "“Lil’ bitch I heard these labels tryna make another me/ Everything you getting little hoe is cause of me." Cardi has only replied saying: "This is the thing – you know, people don’t understand that I got beef with ten other b****s in the hood, and I still be in the hood.”
