This weekend things went from bad to worse for the Cincinnati Bengals.

On the very first drive of their game against the Buffalo Bills, star wide receiver A.J. Green was tackled along the sideline by Buffalo Bills cornerback Stephon Gilmore. What appeared to be a standard tackle turned out to be a horrifying result for Green; a torn hamstring.

More testing and another MRI will follow this week, but NFL.com is reporting that Green may very well be done for the remainder of the season.

Green is the Bengals leading receiver this season with 66 catches, 964 receiving yards and four touchdowns. If Green is unable to play another snap this year, it would mark the first time he is unable to hit the 1,000 receiving yard mark in his six year career.

The Bengals are already dealing with numerous issues as is. Their loss to the Bills on Sunday dropped them to 3-6-1, making it very difficult to win the AFC North. Head Coach Marvin Lewis has survived 13 seasons without a playoff win, but this could finally spell the end of his tenure in Cincinnati.

The Bengals only have one win in their last six games.

A frustrated Lewis didn’t say much on the matter in his postgame press conference. “I don't know when he can come back, but he has a hamstring injury,” said Lewis.

Green has already been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders due to the injury. Quarterback Andy Dalton will simply have to look towards his other wide receivers, such as Brandon LaFell, moving forward. Considering the Bengals’ playoff hopes are almost diminished, they may voluntarily sit Green for the rest of the year to ensure he is fully ready to go for next season.
