President Donald Trump claimed on his Twitter account that Mexico is the second deadliest country in the world, but Mexico's government clapped back to his statement. "Mexico was just ranked the second deadliest country in the world, after only Syria," Trump wrote. "Drug trade is largely the cause. We will BUILD THE WALL!"

Hours after the tweet that has thousands of likes and retweets, Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs Luis Videgaray Caso responded tagging Trump. "While Mexico does have a significant problem of violence, Mexico is NOT the second most violent nation in the world," Caso wrote. "According to UN figures for 2014 (the most recent international report), Mexico is far from being one of the most violent countries."

Former Mexico's President Vicente Fox also tweeted Trump: "The US is the biggest consumer of illegal drugs and as long as you keep on consuming: Mexico pays the price."

According to the latest data from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Videgaray Caso is right! Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Colombia have higher homicide rates than Mexico.

Atlas and Boots published the updated 2017 list. Syria remains the most dangerous country in the world for the second successive year, Afghanistan and Iraq also remained as the second and third most dangerous countries in the world.

Iceland has maintained its position as the most peaceful country in the world, and Europe remains the most peaceful geographical region. According to the ranking, Mexico's position is 22nd.
