Rumors are firing up the Internet claiming that superstar rapper Eminem was the victim of a stabbing in New York City on Wednesday night and did not survive. As it turns out, it is not true.

Marshall Mathers, real name of the singer, is actually alive and well, as his reps have confirmed. The message on Facebook is a sidebar advertisement claiming he was stabbed, and shows a rather disturbing picture of a man's back tattoed with slash marks and a tantalizing message:

"Rapper Eminem left nearly DEAD after being stabbed 4 times in NYC!! Warning 18+!! It was all caught on surveillance video! Click the pic to play the video!"

His reps told E! News that the post was not true, and that these rumors happen all the time.

Users have indeed been clicking in the image, which then redirects them to a site called, which then asks them to share the link on Facebook -- reason why the post got so popular within a short amount of time --  and then to fill a survey with promises of free prizes and more stabbing news.

This is far from the first time a celebrity has been pronounced dead by social media. Morevoer, the exact same disturbing picture was used in December 2011 to report that Justin Bieber had been stabbed, leading to the same spam.
