Approximately 6.3 million people in Florida were ordered to evacuate their homes due Hurricane Irma. A pregnant woman who was sheltering in a hotel in Key West, Florida, had to be rescued by the Miami-Dade Police Department, after she went into labor. While Hurricane Irma, of Category 5, lashed out at the state, the police helped the evacuated woman, taking her to the Baptist Hospital in Kendall.

According to the Miami Herald report and the Miami-Dade police, Cara Kesling gave birth to a little girl named Nayiri Storm. The police shared in their official Twitter account a photo of the baby with the caption “Welcome to the world baby Nayiri Storm!”

The new mother was released from the hospital, and now the new family of three, was escorted by the Miami-Dade police back to their hotel, where they're waiting out the storm.

On Monday, September 11, The National Hurricane center released its updated Irma path projection, which shows the storm nearing the Florida-Georgia border. Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado said that about 72% of the city is without power, but are working in the recovery plan.

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn says the damage in Tampa is not as bad as he was anticipating. “We really were lucky last night,” he said. “I think the issue will be the power issues and the magnitude of the power issues,” Buckhorn said, adding that he's hopeful that process will take days, not weeks.
