After having dated for more than three years, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s relationship is pretty long-lasting by Hollywood standards. But a recent tabloid report seems to suggest that the couple’s status could soon change for the better as Shelton is now ready to pop the question.

A report from OK! Magazine said that Shelton has been planning to propose to his long-time girlfriend but saw it fit to consult Stefani’s parents first. “Gwen is close to her mom and dad, and both their opinions are important to her,” an unnamed source told the magazine as reported by fact-checking site Gossip Cop.

The report said that Stefani’s mom and dad were initially worried that “she’d have her heart broken again.” To get their trust and approval for his plan to propose to the “No Doubt” singer, Shelton tried his best to show his commitment by putting up some extra effort, such as “jumping right in to the Stefani’s traditions, like Sunday family dinners,” to prove to them that he’s the right one.

Shelton’s efforts were not wasted, however, as Stefani’s parent were won over and reportedly gave him the nod to proceed with his proposal. “Dennis loves the fact that Blake is a real man’s man who hunts, fishes and lives on a ranch where he does a lot of his own work,” OK!’s mysterious source claimed. “They think their daughter and Blake make a great couple.”

While fans might have loved to hear the couple’s relationship leveling up, Gossip Cop says the story is just a fabrication. The fact-checking site got in touch with Stefani’s rep, who confirmed that Shelton has neither made a proposal to his girlfriend nor asked permission from her parents. In addition, Gossip Cop also noted that Shelton revealed on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that he is not yet engaged to Stefani.

But even DeGeneres is rooting for the country singer to pop the question already. As a pre-engagement gift, she gifted Shelton a proposal countdown clock.

“So Jennifer Lopez was here, and I wanted to help her out with A-Rod because she wanted to marry him — obviously like Gwen wants to marry you,” DeGeneres told Shelton. “And I gave her a clock that she could give to him. Like the clock is ticking, that time is passing. I gave her the clock, and literally a week later he proposed to her.”
