Vital Voices Global Partnership is a leading non-governmental organization that identifies, invests in and brings visibility to remakable women around the world by unleashing their leadership potential to transform lives and accelerate peace and prosperity in their communities.Founded by for U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 1997, the organization trains and mentors women leaders as agents of transformative change in economic development, human rights and political participation. The Vital Voices Global Leadership Network includes more than 14,000 leaders representing 144 countries who have trained and mentored 500,000 additional women and girls in their communities.Vital Voices shares that as long as violence against women persists, women's human rights are compromised. Every day, gender-based violence afflicts hundreds of millions of women in its many forms: dosmestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking and harmful traditional practices.
They know that women cannot end violence on their own; women need the partnership of outstanding make advocates and partners such as the ones they honored this year with the Voices of Solidarity Awards.Vital Voices highlight men who do great work and encourage them to partner with their network of global women leaders on the frontlines of advancing human rights, economic opportunity and political and public leadership. They believe that in order to create global climate of intolerance for violence against women, men must demand non-violence from one another. This is exactly what the men being honored this year which are Vice President of The United States Joe Biden, former NFL player Don McPherson, Sir Partrick Stewart and South African activist Bafana Khumalo have been doing coming up with preventive strategies and educating young men on these issues and at the same time being advocates for women who have been abused.The award dinner ceremony had several presenters Journalist Tina Brown presented the award to Bafana Khumalo, Academy Award winning actress Sally Field presented to Don McPherson and Fashion icon and designer Diane Von Furstenberg presented the Solidarity award to Vice President Joe Biden and the comedian, writer and producer Seth Meyers to Sir Patrick Stewart. Seth Meyers made a few jokes of course that had the attendees laughing.
