A man killed himself while on a video call with his wife after she refused to attend a function at his aunt’s home, reports said.

The shocking incident took place in Pahadi Shareef, a village located in the suburbs of Hyderabad, India, on Sunday, Aug. 14.

According to the police, Sai Kartik Goud and his wife Ravali, both residents of Tukkuguda - a municipality in the Rangareddy district of Telangana, had traveled to Begumpet to attend a wedding at her relatives’ house on Friday, Aug. 12.

Kartik returned to his hometown on Saturday while Ravali stayed back, police said.

On Sunday, Goud called up his wife on the phone and asked her to come back home so they could attend the Bonalu festival at his aunt’s home in Meerpet.

However, Goud was disappointed when Ravali rejected his request and refused to attend the function, police sources told local media.

He video-called her again later and expressed his anger over her refusal, questioning why she never attend functions at his relatives’ homes when he is attending all functions at her relatives’ houses, according to reports.

During the argument, Goud tied a noose around his neck and hanged himself to death.

Ravali, who helplessly watched her husband’s death, was in a state of shock, reports said. She regained her senses and immediately alerted their neighbors to go to her home and check on her husband.

The neighbors broke open the front door, only to find Goud’s lifeless body hanging from the ceiling fan in the bedroom.

The body was brought down from the noose and sent to the medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy will confirm the exact cause of death.

A case of unnatural death has been registered and a further investigation is underway, police said.

LT reported a similar incident when a man allegedly killed himself after his parents denied him permission to celebrate his birthday in a grand manner.

The deceased man, identified only as Lokesh, a 21-year-old medical student who was studying his third year of college at Jalalabad University in Kyrgyzstan, had reportedly come back to his hometown in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, India to visit his parents for a vacation.

As his birthday approached, Lokesh reportedly planned to celebrate the special day in a grand manner and asked his parents to make the arrangements for the event.

However, his parents rebuffed his requests. After this, a heated argument erupted between Lokesh and his parents, with his mother telling him that his birthday celebrations this year would be simple.

Lokesh, who was left heartbroken after hearing this, reportedly got upset and later that night consumed a large number of sleeping pills.

The family subsequently found Lokesh unconscious inside their residence and rushed him to the hospital, where he succumbed to his condition on Wednesday, Aug. 10.
