Jodi Arias will be back in court on September 16 for a new sentencing trial. Monday's decision for a sentencing date comes after a mistrial was declared on May 23. Now Arias will wait to complete the penalty phase of her course, following the initial penalty phase ended with a hung jury. However, Arias' first-degree murder conviction still stands, and so does the jurors' finding that Arias murdered her former boyfriend Travis Alexander in a "cruel manner."

Now that a new sentencing trial date has been set, a new jury will be selected. This jury will decide whether Arias will be sentenced to death via lethal injection or life in prison. The Sept. 16 hearing date was set due to Maricopa Judge Sherry Stephens after considering motions from both the defense and the prosecution.

At Monday's hearing Arias arrived in black-and-white-striped jail clothing looking relatively pleased. Though the hearing was brief, Stephens did reveal that prosecutors need time to respond to defense requests for jurors' Twitter user names and to restrict live television coverage of the proceedings.

If the new jury is also unable to reach a unanimous verdict, Arias could receive life imprisonment. However, Maricopa Judge Sherry Stephens could decide whether that term is without parole or if Arias could be eligible for parole after serving 25 years.

Arias was convicted of murdering her ex-boyfriend, Alexander on May 8, 2013. She and Alexander met in September 2006 at a Prepaid Legal Services conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Alexander and Arias began dating in February 2007, after the two broke up in June of 2007, Alexander moved to Mesa, Arizona. Alexander's body was discovered in a shower at his home on June 4, 2008. Alexander had been stabbed repeatedly, his throat had been cut and he had been shot in the head.
