José Eduardo Derbez is the son of comedic genius Eugenio Derbez and telenovela legend Victoria Ruffo. The young star had previously been seen in telenovelas like "Que Pobres Tan Ricos", "Vino El Amor" and "Amores Con Trampa". This year he tried to do venture into the television presenting world and took a job at morning show "Hoy." Derbez came in to replace departing Paul Stanley to help out with the comedy in the Televisa program, but the problem was that it didn't work out. José Eduardo was heavily criticized for not adding any value to the show and essentially being dead weight.

As you know, "Hoy" features veteran hosts like Andrea Legarreta, Galilea Montijo and Raúl Araiza, who have been working together for years. They all have a rhytm and know each other to perfection. When it was time for José Eduardo to give his point of view in certain topics, his opinion always fell flat. Other times he just couldn't get a word on because of everyone trying to talk at the same time. Derbez just didn't seem to fit or find his place in the panel and was let go from the show.

"With much sadness I am leaving this show," he told viewers at the top of the hour. "I leave with sadness and happiness to do what I love doing, telenovelas. I loved being here and I want to thank each and everyone for the affection that you all gave me since the first show." He then quipped, "It was so much affection that I was literally left without words." This last bit was a nod to the criticism he received for not saying much.

All the co-hosts got around him and gave him a group hug saying that they would miss his presence. Derbez did not reveal what project he will be in next. Watch the farewell video below and tell us what you think!
