Videos circulating on social media and television shows confirm the arrival of Mexican singer José José at a hospital in Miami. The artist was transferred in an air ambulance from Mexico, but according to his assistant and spokesperson Laura Núñez, he was the one who made the decision to travel and left his house walking on his own feet.

"José José went super stable, he was not forced to go, he did not get cancer," Núñez said during a press conference. According to Núñez, before leaving, the artist thanked his daughter Sarita and apologized by saying "I'm sorry." The press questioned the reason why the singer asked for forgiveness and she answered that she understood that José José was referring to the way in which he had decided to leave the country.

Some Mexican tabloids report that the artist is very delicate and weights less than 100 lbs. In January "El Príncipe de la Canción" was admitted to intensive care at a hospital in Mexico City after his blood pressure increased when a paparazzi managed to enter the hospital and tried to capture some images of his convalescence.

In March 2017, José José announced that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Months after chemo and a surgery, his doctors were positive that he would survive. In November, the singer had a surgery at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición in Mexico City for a little over four hours, led by oncologist Carlos Chan, a specialist in liver and pancreas cancer, that according to Núñez was a success.
