Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have just put to rest the endless speculations about their royal feud. On Monday, the two duchesses were snapped hugging and exchanging a double-cheeked kiss — a gesture suggesting a thawing of their rumored frosty relationship.

The Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex attended the Commonwealth Day service with their husbands at Westminster Abbey on Monday, joining hundreds of guests from across the 53 countries of the British Commonwealth. Photos from the services show that when Meghan arrived at the church with Prince Harry, Kate greeted her with an embrace and a kiss on the cheek. Some photos also show the two duchesses and their husbands standing near the entrance of the church while having an amicable chat.

Kate and Meghan also greeted Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla together with a hug and kiss on their cheeks before greeting Queen Elizabeth with two curtsies when she entered the abbey.

According to body language expert Judi James, the recent encounter between the two duchesses was proof that the royal rift was finally over. “Kate appeared to be the one making active moves — as she did on Christmas Day — although Meghan provided a response of delight and good humor,” said James. “These four have lacked the spark of fun the two men in particular were always famous for but Meghan seemed to be the one trying to re-ignite that spark with some wide, authentic looking grins and animated body language,” he added.

Stories of feud between Kate and Meghan surfaced toward the end of 2018, when Prince Harry and Meghan moved out of Kensington Palace after staying there for months since the royal wedding. Since their move, the couple was seldom spotted in public with Kate and Prince William. The only time the two royal couples were spotted together was in the beginning of March, when they attended a reception marking the 50th anniversary of Prince Charles’ investiture as Prince of Wales. The two barely acknowledged each other during the event, further fueling the feud stories.

Kensington Palace shut down the feud rumors a couple of months back, but neither Kate nor Meghan has directly addressed the issue to the media. With them amicably hugging and kissing each other on Monday, however, it looks like these two women wanted to tell the world they are too good for petty royal feuds.
