Kate Middleton was officially conferred the title Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge when she married Prince William in 2011. The duchess is a candidate for queen consort since husband Prince William will be second in line to the throne once Prince Charles becomes king. As queen consort, Kate has to endure all the things that come with being bestowed the title “Queen.”

Once Queen Elizabeth II decides to abdicate her throne or retire, heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles will become king. Prince William and Kate will become “Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess Of Cornwall.” Along with this title, the couple will have access to the Duchy of Cornwall, which has £1 billion, or $1.3 billion, in total assets.

Prince William will have his turn to the throne once Prince Charles steps down. Prince William will become King William V, and Kate will assume the role of queen consort. As queen consort, she will have numerous responsibilities, including attending ceremonial duties and being a foreign ambassador to state occasions.

Apart from her royal duties, Kate as the queen consort will have to endure royal traditions. One of this is bowing down to Prince William during his ceremonies, just like what she did when they tied the knot in 2011. In addition, Kate has to curtsy to true-blood princesses older than her when Prince William is not around.

Another part of being a queen consort that Kate probably has to endure is the endless rumor about her and her mother-in-law, Duchess of Cornwall Camilla Parker Bowles. Prior to Kate marrying Prince William, news swirled about Camilla disapproving of Kate, and the rumor will intensify even more because of the pronounced differences between the two women once Kate becomes queen consort.

When the Queen passes away, there is a chance that countries may abandon the commonwealth. This means that under the rule of either Prince Charles or Prince William and Kate, there will be a smaller commonwealth to manage, depending on the rulers of the commonwealth countries. The countries may decide to leave as loyalties were pledged only to the Queen.

Prince William and Kate are very involved in charities as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. But when the royal couple seats on the throne, Kate as queen consort will be engaged in even more charities. Currently, the royal family serves as board of director in an estimated 3,000 charities, which Kate has to attend to as queen consort.

On top of numerous charities, Kate as queen consort has to follow the Queen’s standards and uphold them. One of the mentioned standards that Kate has to adhere to remains undisclosed. It also means less interviews and less media appearances for Kate.

While everyone knows about the royal protocols on public display of affection (PDA), Kate and Prince William occasionally break it. The royal couple was photographed several times holding hands on the red carpet and embracing during tennis games. Once Kate becomes queen consort, the no-PDA rule has to be strictly followed. The reason for the rule on not displaying affection in public is that the royal family has to practice professionalism while being on duty.
