The women of the royal family abide by different royal protocols, which cover rules such as manner of eating, specific diet and fashion. Despite fashion protocols, Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and even the Queen still manage to stand out and are thus deserving to be called fashion icons.

When you know that the whole world is watching, trying to look good comes as a priority. As a royal, looking good means abiding by a strict fashion guide, from head to toe. Aside from the clutch and dress-only policies, the women of the royal family are required to wear only closed-toe shoes. Find out how the duchesses and princesses play with the closed-toe shoes and their preferred style and brands.

Queen Elizabeth II

The Queen’s shoes have to be 2 ¼ inches. This will add height but is still practical. She is often seen wearing the black patent work shoes with extra insole for comfort.

Catherine, Duchess Of Cambridge

One of the most followed fashion influencer, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has collected pairs and pairs of shoes from different brands. Kate Middleton is often seen in royal engagements in suede pumps, including her navy blue Prada, grey Emmy London and longtime favorite brand Gianvito Rossi in a variety of colors, mostly nudes.

In her earlier royal days, Kate has worn platform boots from another brand favorite, Russell and Bromley. The duchess loved her wedges too, but she was called out for wearing one as apparently the Queen bans royal women from wearing them.

Meghan, Duchess Of Sussex

Similar to Kate, pumps are Meghan Markle’s go-to shoes, but she is seen in strappy high-heel shoes too. Aquazzura is one of Meghan’s top choices when it comes to shoes. She wore Aquazzura during her wedding and first royal tour.

The Duchess of Sussex owns several Manolo Blahnik BB pumps. British brand Tamara Mellon is another favorite for strappy sandals, just like the one she wore in the Commonwealth Youth Forum.

Princess Eugenie

Princess Eugenie has less restrictions when it comes to fashion. In royal events, she complies with the closed-toe shoe policy. But outside, she picks bolder styles.

Princess Eugenie is often spotted wearing pumps from her favorite designers Jimmy Choo and Valentino. She wore Valentino Rockstuds at Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding.

In 2013, the princess rocked a pair of western booties in New York City and a pair of round-toe booties during the 2018 Serpentine Gallery Summer Party. She took inspiration from Meghan, too, when she wore a strappy sandal from Aquazurra in the 2018 Nelson Mandela Centenary.

Princess Beatrice

Princess Beatrice knows how to play around shoes and is more adventurous than her sister, Princess Eugenie. She has worn almost all shoe styles available in brazen colors.

Princess Eugenie's shoe style stands out even with just a pair of black pumps with a laser-cut detail, just like the black shoes she wore in an event in 2015. She broke a royal fashion rule when she stepped out in rainbow flats in 2017.

She also loves glitters and bejewelled shoes, as spotted in New York in 2016. Princess Beatrice tried on lace-up heels in an all-black event in 2016.
