In just a handful of years, new cars from South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia has risen from inexpensive alternatives to fierce competitors, if not leaders, in ever market they penetrate. Now, an all new Kia GT4 Stinger Concept is going for the next challenge: to become Kia's first proper rear-wheel-drive sports car.

Details are slim, but the new Kia GT4 Stinger Concept sports car is expected to draw crowds at the Detroit Auto Show later this month. According to Kia, the new GT4 will be a proper sports car featuring a turbocharged 2.0 liter engine that sends 315 hp to the rear wheels. Not only does the Kia GT4 Stinger Concept's claimed performance exceed the 274-hp Hyundai Genesis coupe, but it's getting ever closer to the current, albeit aging, Nissan 370Z benchmark.

Styling wise, the Kia GT4 Stinger features the signature "Tiger Nose" grille treatment, this time just inches off the ground to emphasis the GT4 Stinger's aggressive stance. A carbon fiber front splitter is mounted just below the bumper as wel. Front-brake cooling vents manage the air and heat and add another sporty touch to the Kia GT4 Stinger's front end. Verticle LED strips flanking the grille and a set of 20-inch wheels complete the package.

The Detroit Auto Show is on January 13. Stay tuned as we learn more about the new Kia GT4 Stinger Concept.
