María Elena Velasco, better known as her character "La India María," passed away at the age of 74. The Institute of Mexican Cinematography made the news official on Twitter, citing her last film in 2014 called "La Hija De Moctezuma," The Mexican actress had surgery this past February of a tumor that was detected in her stomach. Velasco starred in more than 20 films portraying María Nicolasa Cruz, "La India María," a naive woman that got into mischievous situations.

María Elena also portrayed her character in television in a show called "¡Ay María Qué Puntería!" and last on the telenovela "Corazón Indomable." Her co-star Ana Brenda Contreras shared an Instagram photo of both of them on set and shared the following: "No María, (crying emoji). I wake up with my heart broke. 'A jijo' we will miss you."
