Monalisa Perez Killed Boyfriend Pedro Ruiz Trying To Get Followers On YouTube

Using a hardcover encyclopedia on his chest to protect himself from a bullet, Pedro Ruiz was killed by his girlfriend, Monalisa Perez. According to NBC News, the couple wanted to have a bigger audience on their YouTube channel, so they came up with a deadly trick with a powerful .50 caliber Desert Eagle handgun, considered one of the most powerful pistols in the world.

They set up a GoPro camera on the back of a car and another camera on a nearby ladder on Monday evening. Once they were filming, Thinking that the book would stop the bullet, Perez picked up the gun and shot Ruiz. The bullet traveled through the book and hit Ruiz in the chest, causing the immediate death of the 22-year-old man. Monalisa, 19, who is pregnant with the couple's second child, is now detained in Halstad, Minnesota, in northern United States.

"Me and Pedro are probably going to record one of our most dangerous videos. HIS idea, not mine," the woman wrote on her Twitter account before the deadly trick.

According to BBC Mundo, Claudia Ruiz, the victim's aunt, told a local TV station that Pedro had commented on the trick. "We want more viewers, we want to become famous," Ruiz told his aunt. "He had told me about an idea. I said, 'don't do it, don't do it,'" the aunt said. "'Why are you going to use a gun? Why?'"

About the couple, the woman said that both were "in love" and that "it was just a joke that went wrong."

Halstad police reported that Perez faces second-degree murder charges and seized the two cameras that recorded the whole incident. Perez stated that she was pressured by Ruiz to perform that trick and that they had tried it previously and the bullet had not gone through the book.

Besides being 6 months pregnant, Perez also has a three-year-old son, both of Pedro's kids. She was released from jail, with bail set at $7,000, with conditions. Perez will have to wear a GPS monitor and have no access to firearms during her release. Her next court date is scheduled for July 5.
