The Green Bay Packers have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season. At 4-6, time is running out for Aaron Rodgers’ squad to make the playoffs for an eighth consecutive season.

Here are five reasons the Packers are in serious trouble of missing the postseason.

1. Defense

We all knew the Packers defense wasn’t elite coming into this season, but it’s been even worse than expected. The Packers have now lost four consecutive games, and in all four losses, they have allowed more than 30 points. Overall the Packers defense ranks 27th and this secondary is getting torched on a weekly basis. No team allows more points per drive this season than the Packers do.

2. Targets

Aaron Rodgers is a phenomenal quarterback, but he’s not getting a lot of help from his wide receivers or tight ends. Richard Rodgers is the leading tight end with just 203 receiving yards and one touchdown. As for wide receivers, Jordy Nelson clearly isn’t on the same page with Rodgers, and that’s very surprising. Nelson has only caught 55.2 percent of passes from Rodgers this season. In addition to that, Packers receivers and tight ends have plagued games with drops and incorrect route running.

3. Ground Game

Or lack thereof. Packers starting running back, Eddie Lacy, is on Injured Reserve, and let’s not forget he’s scheduled to be a free agent this offseason. Perhaps the most telling stat of all is the Packers rushing touchdowns- they have three- all of which have come from Rodgers. Rodgers also has the second most rushing yards on the team. Without a stable running game in place, the Packers are starting to resemble Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.

4. Momentum

The Packers schedule doesn’t paint a pretty picture from here, and any time you’re heading into December with a four game losing streak, you’re in big trouble. The Packers are an abysmal 1-4 on the road; their only win coming way back in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Things are getting worse and worse for the Packers, and I don’t think it would shock anyone if Head Coach Mike McCarthy gets fired.

5. Injuries

Injuries stink, but they are part of the game. Unfortunately for the Packers, they’ve had a lot of crucial injuries this season, especially their secondary. Four cornerbacks alone are currently out including Makinton Dorleant and Sam Shields, who are both on Injured Reserve. Clay Matthews may be playing, but you can clearly see he’s not 100 percent healthy. All of the defensive injuries have played a major factor in the Packers four game losing streak.
