At the end of "Once Upon a Time's" fifth season, we saw Lana Parrilla's character, Regina, use Hyde's (Sam Witwer) serum to split from her dark side once and for all. While the reformed Evil Queen assumed her darkness was gone for good, it actually reanimated and set out to complete her quest of destruction. Executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz talked a bit about Parrilla's dual roles.
"The two roles are obviously going to be very separate in the sense that we saw a snippet of an Evil Queen who looked at what Regina has become and is very disappointed," Kitsis told Entertainment Weekly. "If she's unleashed, she would show Regina what ripping away everyone’s happy ending truly looks like."
Horowitz then added what it would mean for the character to separate from herself. "There’s a lot of questions to be asked about what it means when you separate parts of yourself and can you really separate these parts of yourself?" said Horowitz.
"That’s why we did the Jekyll [Hank Harris] and Hyde story, which was, can you really eliminate the darkness inside you?" Kitsis added. "Is that really the best way? Those are the things we’re really looking forward to exploring this season."
Speaking of Hyde, Kitsis and Horowitz claimed that his character may cause many issues with our heroes while he is in Storybrooke.
"The condition of life in Storybrooke is very important. Hyde’s arrival impacts that." Explained Horowitz towards the next chapter of "OUAT." He continued by stating how they plan to explore what it means for the day-to-day life in Storybrooke.
As far as the plot and storytelling are concerned, the co-creators revealed they want Season 6 to have the same atmosphere as the first two seasons and they will no longer split the action into two half-seasons, but rather over one season-long arc.
"Once Upon a Time" Season 6 is scheduled to premiere this fall on Sunday Sept. 25.
